Torre di Palme
Walking through Torre di Palme feels like going back in time. This medieval village nestled between the sea and the sky was built around its magnificent castle, which stood as a fortress above the Adriatic Sea and was used to defend against the pirate attacks. Among the narrow streets of its old town, you can catch picturesque glimpses and even breathtaking views of the sea and the hills.
Boschetto di Cugnolo
The Boschetto di Cugnolo is a wood surrounding the village of Torre di Palme. Within this protected floristic area, you can see species of flowers typical of the Mediterranean scrub. It is a hiking destination and the perfect place for walks and treks. Look for the "Lovers' Cave" where the two unhappy lovers, Antonio and Laurina, jumped into the void from the Fosso di San Filippo.
Moresco
A medieval stronghold for defense against nearby Ascoli, Moresco is one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages. Perched on the top of a hill, it offers visitors views ranging from the Conero to the Gran Sasso. This triangular-shaped fortified village, still surrounded by its walls, is a treasure trove, but there are other wonders to discover all around such as churches, shrines and towers.
Fermo
On the Sàbulo hill, about 300 meters above sea level, lies the oldest and most historic part of Fermo. On the other hand, the more modern part is located along the slopes of the hill. In its historic center, the Renaissance-style Piazza del Popolo is the heart of the city: this is where the Palazzo dei Priori with its Picture Gallery and the Sala del Mappamondo can be found. One of the most impressive 18th-century theaters in the entire region is also located here: the Teatro dell'Aquila.
Fiastra: Reserve and Lame Rosse
The Abbadia di Fiastra State Nature Reserve is located around the Cistercian abbey that has ruled this area since the 12th century and ensured its economic, social and religious development. The area has a great natural heritage, with numerous species of flora and fauna. Besides the lake, around which you can relax or enjoy a hike, there is another area that is really interesting. It is the Lame Rosse, rock formations that, due to weathering, have lost their top layer and taken on a reddish color: a landscape very similar to those of the Grand Canyon and the U.S. landscapes. A very special place indeed!
Frasassi Caves
These are underground karst caves, discovered in 1971 by CAI (Italian Alpine Club) speleologists from Ancona. The Frasassi caves are part of the Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi Regional Natural Park. Inside the caves you can see stalactites and stalagmites that, over millions of years, have created natural sculptures through the limestone strata. There are limestone pillars as high as 15 meters and formations resembling organ pipes or candles.
Loreto
This city is famous for its shrine, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the Catholic Christian religion. In fact, within its walls stands the Basilica of the Holy House, where a very famous relic is kept: the house of Nazareth where, it is said, the Virgin Mary was born and where she lived until she received the annunciation of Christ's birth. The house was brought here by the Crusaders.
Recanati
This is the birthplace of Giacomo Leopardi, the famous poet. Every place has something about him: the palace overlooking the square of " Sabato del Villaggio," but also the manuscripts, the library, Silvia's house and the path leading to the hill of the poem "L'Infinito." The beach of Porto Recanati, called "the living room of the Conero," is not only a place to enjoy the sun but also good food and ancient Roman relics.
Sibillini Mountains
Between Marche and Umbria, the Sibillini Mountains rise within the national park bearing the same name. The landscape is dominated by the Apennines, and its 72,000 or so hectares are home to species typical of the mountains such as alpine anemone, mountain asphodel, and edelweiss, as well as chestnut, maple, and beech trees. The Sibilini Mountains apples, which have pink stripes, are grown here, rediscovered recently but famous since the time of the Latin poets. It is a wonderful area for hiking and for people who want to disconnect from everything and simply enjoy the view.
Food and wine
The Marche region is also a land of good food and good wine. In our area near Fermo, among the most famous typical dishes are the Maccheroncini di Campofilone, still prepared in the town where they first made, and the Vincisgrassi, which look a lot like lasagna but are definitely unique. Along the coast, fish "brodetto" is also made, which is made differently and has different ingredients depending on the port and the catch. In any case, fish is one of the most beloved products. In the province of Fermo, you can also taste a selection of fried foods such as olive ascolane and cremini fritti, filled with custard.
The most popular wines usually brought to the table include the white Falerio and the red Rosso Piceno. However, there are also wines produced from indigenous Italian grape varieties such as Passerina and Pecorino.
